Re: Help us out: Engine Designer Demo - Scenarios

the motorbike division of the suzuki corp. requires an engine to create a successor of the gsx1400 lineup, and having no experience on line fours engines want to recycle one out of the suzuki car division.

this engine needs to get on the underbelly of the premium suzuki chassis so it has to be both lightweight and powerful. more than the previous model, at least.

power: more than 80kw (70%)
weight: less than 85 kg (30%)

additional restrictions apply: oil cooling, three way catalytic converter and exhaust muffler; no racing headers (for space constraints).

Just wait and see what people come up with when the engine list is expanded beyond I4's  I've already got a couple of ideas brewing and I'm sure others do too.

Re: Help us out: Engine Designer Demo - Scenarios

Scenario:

It's 1965, your company has been approached by a new, upstart Formula 1 team. They want you to design a 1.5 Liter Inline 4 cylinder engine to go in their new race car. Performance is the #1 priority, for budgetary reasons the engine must be able to run two races within it's useful lifespan.

Technical limitations:

Must be 1.5L, running on appropriate racing fuel, must use lightest materials possible. Anything else, appropriate for the 1965 period, goes.

Technical Specifications:

Must make no less than x HP (40%)
Must attain y MTTF (5%)
Minimum responsiveness of z (25%)
Must weigh less than a (30%)

Re: Help us out: Engine Designer Demo - Scenarios

Well, crap, that's what I get for replying a day after reading the thread. In my defense, whilst they are very similar the technical base and specifications would be more challenging. Think of my suggestion as the 'Hard' difficulty level version. :D

Better yet, I'll tweak it a bit...

Re: Help us out: Engine Designer Demo - Scenarios

People should probably start pondering V8 scenarios. It's probably a few months off, but we will need some!
